The Richmond Heights Police Department responded to 45 traffic accidents in the month of June 2020. This is down from the 73 accidents that were handled in June 2019*. For the year, we have responded to 247 accidents. This is 141 less than the same time period in 2019*.
*This decrease can be attributed, in part, to the significant drop in vehicle traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FBI’s UCR Program collects statistics on the number of offenses known to law enforcement. In the traditional Summary Reporting System (SRS), there are eight crimes, or Part I offenses, (murder and nonnegligent homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny-theft, and arson) to be reported to the UCR Program. The Richmond Heights Police Department responded to 28 traffic accidents in the month of May 2020. This is down from the 50 accidents that were handled in May 2019*. For the year, we have responded to 202 accidents. This is 113 less than the same time period in 2019*.

** 6/9/2020 Update **
The Richmond Heights Police Department is pleased to announce that as of Monday, 6/8/2020, our Body-Worn Camera (BWC) program has been fully implemented. All uniformed officers have been trained and are now wearing their assigned BWCs. Our policy can be found on our BWC page located at the link at the bottom of this announcement.

The Richmond Heights Police Department will soon begin implementing a body-worn camera (BWC) program. The use of BWCs will be an invaluable tool to aid the department in accurately documenting our officer’s interactions with the public while maintaining our commitment to transparency.
